Blue Portals: Elemental Edition
A remaster of the 2010 modification for Valve's "Portal" - with a new art style, improved gameplay, and more.Currently unreleased.
A long, long time ago in the year 2015, in a galaxy that's literally our own: It was 5 years after the mod "Blue Portals" released on ModDB to an oddly large amount of acclaim. On this day, I and co-creator Reepblue decided we would release the mod on Steam. That was the day we fucked up.What started as a simple art refresh bundled with some archive content quickly led us down a path of constant reinvention, restarting the project from scratch. Three times. Across two different Steam appIDs and even more Source Engine branches, the project struggled to find its footing. It became vaporware, which is like vaporwave but with less Diana Ross. Also, it's not at all like vaporwave.UNTIL NOW. As in "struggled to find its footing until now". Not the Diana Ross/vaporwave thing.
NOTE: PROPER SCREENSHOTS COMING SOON
Elemental Edition Features
• 2014 version of the mod used as the base, including Blue Portals, the Extended Play expansion, RTSL/Planet Philip competition entries, and bonus levels – all remastered with a new art style inspired by Borderlands and Life is Strange.• A brand new lighting pass across the entire game, bringing in more interesting lighting and shadows. Because it's not that. Interesting, I mean.• An overall bump in fidelity. All textures are at least double their previous resolution (sometimes higher!) with a stronger focus on optimization and material definition.• New model for the player character, Victoria.• Significantly improved the game's narrative by removing it. Trust me, this is an improvement.• Turrets are now nonverbal.• Copyrighted/unoriginal music has been replaced with new tracks by The Hamster Alliance. Bye, Rihanna!• Removed swimming segments, redesigning puzzles that previously employed it in their solutions. The puzzles still work with knee-high water.• Physics has been disabled on many clutter props that previously caused navigation issues or impeded puzzle reliability.• Lowered the number of unfair difficulty spikes by extending all puzzle timers by 30% and lowering the surface lips of certain momentum puzzles to remove complex input requirements.• New content: The Classic Redux level pack and a new final level for Extended Play.• Improved mechanics and puzzle cues through the use of new, consistent iconography and a fixed color palette that clearly defines each system in the game.• Improved accessibility features such as portal prop funneling, zooming, and reworked mechanic tutorials.• Steam achievements.
Blue Portals: Elemental Edition is a solo development by YTM Games, one of the mod's original creators. It originally began as an attempt to update the mod for a proper large-scale release on Steam. After years of a struggled development, it became a one-person project focusing on taking the original release and revamping its visuals wholesale while improving in minor ways where possible. The original was not developed with proper tutorialization or accessibility in mind. While some efforts have been made to correct this with Elemental Edition, this fact still holds. It's highly recommended the player completes Portal (1) and all of its achievements before playing this mod - advanced techniques are used frequently and are often poorly conveyed to players in some levels. It's best to approach this game with advanced Portal knowledge fresh in your mind.YTM Games understands the importance of accessibility in games and implores all developers and publishers to consider accessibility throughout the development process - especially since Blue Portals was created without that consideration.I sincerely apologize to anyone who finds Elemental Edition inaccessible.
